WHAT IS MY BAG MADE OF AND HOW DO I LOOK AFTER IT?
All Kōzo bags are made from a unique plant-based material called washable paper. This material is made from wood pulp and bound and treated in a way to be extremely durable, tear and water-resistant. Therefore the material can be washed and moulded to be more versatile. When the bags are being made, I wash the material to give it texture and mould it to the shape needed. The paper is so versatile that it can be dyed, sewn and printed on. The washable paper that I use is a sustainable vegan leather alternative that is FSC certified.
How to clean a washable paper bag.
Even though the paper can be washed I advise that you only clean your bag with a clean damp cloth or medium-firm bristle brush. This way you can clean any scuffs and marks on the bag without losing its shape and colour. If you brush too harsh it may loosen the fibres or remove any dye.
Feel free to use your normal detergent on the bags with stubborn stains but please take extra care with the hand-dyed bags to prevent colour loss.
After cleaning, let the bag naturally air dye. While it is still damp, mould your bag to the original shape. Once dry it will stiffen.

If you wish to give your bag further waterproofing, I recommend treating it with Nikwax, zero PFC spray.
